Viitatorni (1957–62)

Viitatorni is a high-rise designed by Alvar Aalto that dominates and unites the garden suburb of Viitaniemi. The building is a simplified version Aalto’s original design. Facing Lake Tuomiojärvi, its stepped facade is asymmetric, highlighting the vertical dimension of the building. Viitatorni has 13 storeys and 72 apartments, with studio apartments in the middle and three-person flats at both ends.
