Friday, March 15, 2019 | ANTTI HUTTUNEN
In the past few years, I’ve made a habit of bringing my cross-country skis with me when I’m travelling for work during the winter season. There’s no better way to end your day than heading out for a ski; you get fit and you get to clear your mind too. The result of all this skiing is that I’m now officially very well acquainted with ski trails up and down the country. Jyväskylä obviously has a reputation as a bit of a winter sports paradise, but even then I was blown away by what’s on offer here.

Well-being from ice swimming

Friday, February 22, 2019 | JASMINE RAHKONEN
The water temperature is a couple of degrees above zero and the air is bitterly cold. Every time I walk to the shed, serving as the dressing room, before a dip in the hole in the ice, I ask myself: why am I doing this? But it’s amazing how your mood can swing from one extreme to another: after a dip in the ice-cold water you feel so euphoric that it’s impossible to explain it to another person who has not felt the same. What’s more, you become so addicted to this wonderful feeling that you start wanting more!

City of Light offers plenty to see and experience

Thursday, September 13, 2018 | Elisa Hillgen
Jyväskylä is known both at home and abroad as a celebrated City of Light. This means that Jyväskylä has been among the first to grasp the significance of aesthetic and avant-garde urban illumination in city planning. The basic task of lighting is to provide citizens with a feeling of safety and assist them in going about their lives, but well-designed, aesthetically pleasing lighting also generates an image boost for the cityscape and creates, for example, the necessary preconditions for a whole gamut of business activities and events.
