Kilpisuo, a 250-hectare bog, is home to many different bird species. It was made a nature preserve in 1980. There is a 1.2 km boardwalk across the bog leading to a bird watching tower. The tower has views over nearby lake Kilpilampi.

Starting point and guidance:
Drive 16 km along highway no. 13 from Karstula towards Kokkola. When you reach the village of Kiminki, turn right and follow the sign “Kilpisuon luontopolku”. After 4 km, turn onto a forest road. There is a turning space at the end where you can park. The trail starts from the turning space.

Average hiking time:
The boardwalk is easy to walk in dry weather, but will be slippery in wet weather. Allow at least 1 hour to complete the trail.

Recommended footwear:
The trail is suitable for regular outdoor shoes in dry weather. Otherwise, we recommend waterproof footwear.

Rest areas, lean-to shelters, etc.:
There are seats for resting along the path and a bird watching tower at the end of it.
