Valentine’s Day in the Jyväskylä Region
Valentine’s Day is celebrated on the 14th of February. In the Jyväskylä Region friendship can be celebrated by enjoying the outdoors, having coffee together, or visiting a museum or spa with a friend. Each to their own style.
Plan a Valentine’s Day that suits you and your friend using the tips below in the Jyväskylä Region!
Sledding, skating, and a dip in the lake
If a sledding adventure is calling for a group of friends, there are several possibilities to explore. Laajavuori has its own sled hill at the edge of the slope with a lean-to underneath. The lean-to is available to customers during Laajis opening hours. Laajis is easily accessible by bus as well.
At Halssila Hiihtomaa, you can easily spend half a day on the sled hill. A variety of slopes entice you to try different sledding styles, and a covered hut gathers tired sledders to warm up by the fire and enjoy some snacks.
Nisulan Pihatupa in Luhanka opens its cafe on February 14th from 10 am to 3 pm, featuring indulgence and sledding.
In Jyväskylä Harbor, a cleared cross-country skating track invites those seeking the crisp winter air. In honor of Valentine’s Day, you can rent cross-country skates for two at a price of 20 euros for two hours from Satamakahvila.
After the activities, it’s wonderful to head to Sataman Viilu for a sauna, hot tub, and perhaps even a plunge into an icy lake.
Instead of a cold ice dip, you can also surprise a friend with a summer cruise gift card, which is now available at a 20% discount from Päijänne-risteilyt Hilden’s online store with a code YSTAVA2024 (6.2-29.2.2024)Photo: Tero Takalo-Eskola
Museum visits inspire discussions about art
During a museum tour with a friend in Jyväskylä, you can head to the Jyväskylä Art Museum located on the edge of Kirkkopuisto. Within walking distance is the new museum center, Aalto2, which combines the Alvar Aalto Museum and the Museum of Central Finland. Along the way, you can stop by Galleria Becker and an art rental.
If there’s still a hunger for culture afterwards, Galleria Ratamo, showcasing contemporary Finnish and international art graphics, drawing, and photography, can be found near the Matkakeskus.
Craft Museum of Finland hosts a workshop on Valentine’s Day with the theme ‘Small Paintings.’ The workshop utilizes blueberries, baking soda, pipettes, and strings. The colorful paintings created in the workshop, suitable for all ages, can be further refined into cards. The workshop takes place from 2 pm to 5:30 pm and is included in the museum admission. In honor of Valentine’s Day, you can get two tickets for the price of one at the museum. Museokortti is also accepted.
Sparvinin talo in the old courtyard of Toivola also invites you to craft. In Sparvinin’s museum shop’s free workshop, Valentine’s Day -themed ornaments are crafted from February 5th to 14th. At the same time, you can make discoveries in the museum shop. As a Valentine’s Day discount, beautiful birch bark earrings, heart decorations, and baskets by TuohiMuori from Lahti are 15% off from February 5th to 14th. Open Monday to Friday from 11 am to 4 pm.

On Valentine’s Day, it’s worth taking a friend along and heading to the indoor karting track in Vaajakoski, Karting Center. On Valentine’s Day, two people can drive for a combined price of 50€ for 2×10-minute sessions. The offer is valid not only on Valentine’s Day but also throughout the week from Monday to Friday. When the craving for coffee strikes
A coffee moment shared with a friend can be enjoyed in several places. At Café Miriam’s, freshly baked cakes, pies, and pastries from their own bakery surely satisfy sweet cravings. Robert’s Coffee offers a coffee menu to suit even the most discerning palates. At Espresso House, you can sit back, watch the hustle and bustle of the Pedestrian Street, and enjoy seasonal coffees in hand. In the Caffitella on the upper floor of Sokos, you can delve into conversation accompanied by local coffee delicacies. Meanwhile, at Wilhelmiina’s Konditoria, you can admire the historical setting of Nikolainkulma while savoring coffee and cake.
The café Valkoinen puu, located in the old courtyard of Toivola, not only serves mouth-watering delights but also provides an authentic atmosphere. In the beautifully renovated Bistro Kirkkopuisto, you can enjoy coffee treats and reminisce about the time when the ice cream kiosk in the same building was the go-to spot for grabbing ice cream and sitting for a picnic on the park lawn.
For a different café experience, hop into your car and head to Joutsa. Doll Café Doll Landia offers Valentine’s Day souvenirs for both doll and dog enthusiasts. During the visit, indulge in delightful waffle coffees, witness how the dolls celebrate Valentine’s Day, and even capture photos of your own dolls in the miniature café.Photo: Miriam’s Oy
Life can also improve in a hot tub
You and your friend can immerse yourselves in a spa atmosphere at Scandic Laajavuori, where body and mind can relax in a hot tub and steam sauna. A visit to Aalto Alvari is recommended for a family of water enthusiasts, as the renovated water slide and wave pool ensure a fun experience. In Laukaa’s Peurunka, the spa atmosphere blends with water park-like excitement. You can break records on the 130-meter water slide.Photo: Spa & Resort Peurunka
