Sustainable international accessibility for tourism of Jyväskylä Region (KeKaSa)

The main goal of the project is to support the sustainable growth of tourism industry and SMEs of Jyväskylä Region, at the same time minimising greenhouse gas emissions caused by the tourism growth. It enhances the development of carbon-neutral solutions and operating models and their application in the region and its companies. Digital solutions will be promoted as an integral part of sustainable travel chains.

The project fosters the international carbon-neutral accessibility of the entire tourism region, both in terms of international arrivals to the region and internal mobility in the region’s nature destinations. The specific aim is to profile Jyväskylä Region as an easily accessible destination of sustainable nature and wellness tourism. The goal is also to stand out in the competition as an exemplary responsible tourism destination, whose most significant single act is to make Jyväskylä a pilot area among Finland’s first electronic air connections.Regarding international arrivals, the project will promote sustainable opportunities for airtraffic, intensify cooperation with Tampere and VR, the national railway operator, in building travel chains, and accelerate international tour operator collaboration and marketing. To stimulate carbon-wise movement inside the region, regional cooperation chains and an internal logistics model will be developed and piloted, a tool for calculating the carbon footprint of travel chains launched, the digital-based logistic findability of nature tourist destinations and knowledge-based management of accessibility strengthened, and the visibility and awareness of Jyväskylä Region as a sustainable destination promoted together with key partners. The project supports the main goals of the Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region, EUSBSR, related to connecting the region and increasing well-being by investing in the development of lowcarbon travel chains and strengthening the competitiveness of the tourism industry.
