“Meri Pauniaho, On the Way to the Destination”

The world seems to be in chaos. The feeling is restless, uneasy, lost.
Something should be done, what? Go somewhere, where? Or would it be better to
just stay put and listen quietly, ponder?

On the way to the destination, the goal is unknown. In life, in gardening, in everything.
Through coincidences and various choices, we end up in this moment.

Observation, watching from the sidelines, observation, those are my methods. Remembering, memories,
small, easily forgotten moments, those are my subjects. Interiors, landscapes, maps – like
my notes.

My works are relief prints pulled from PVC plates or wood engravings. I print
small, usually four-print series. I work with a single plate technique. In one
print of mine, there are most often four to six color layers, sometimes even nine
to ten. The abundance of surface textures is characteristic of my works.

Meri Pauniaho (b. 1972) graduated as a Master of Fine Arts from the Kankaanpää
School of Art in 2023. Previously, she graduated as a Bachelor of Fine Arts from
the Lahti Institute of Design in 2014 and as a Bachelor of Arts in Textile Arts
from the Kuopio Academy of Crafts and Design in 1996. She has held exhibitions
both in Finland and abroad.
