In this Evensong at the end of the church year, we give thanks for the gift of life and celebrate Taulumäki cantor Jukka Hassinen’s 60th birthday as well as his long collaboration with the choir Lux Auribus. The choir is conducted by Kimmo Tuuri and the liturgy is led by Taulumäki pastor Matti Väätäinen, with Jukka Hassinen at the organ. During the evening, a collection will be taken to support the concert activities of young musicians.
Evensong is a musical form of evening prayer, most familiar in the Anglican and Episcopal traditions. The main purpose of evening prayer is to give thanks for the day that has passed, seek spiritual peace for the coming evening, and provide participants with a space for reflection through beautiful music and sacred texts.
Choral Evensong is the jewel of worship within the Anglican Communion. It is a service of sung Evening Prayer, taken from the Book of Common Prayer of 1662. Together we are participating in a living tradition of the Church which has been practiced for centuries.
At Choral Evensong, the service is led by the choir who sings responses, canticles, an anthem, and psalms set for the day on our behalf. We are invited to listen and immerse ourselves in the meditative atmosphere of the music, instilling a silent, reflective, and personal offering of praise.
