At the 60th anniversary celebration of the Alvar Aalto Society, Alvar Aalto Museum director Jukka Savolainen speaks on the topic “On Aalto’s Ridge – Guided by Aalto’s Thinking Towards Sustainability”. The celebration will also feature a brief overview of the association’s history and the presentation of the first Alvar Aalto Association thesis award. Additionally, there will be surprise entertainment and a raffle, with an authentic Aalto exhibition poster from the 1960s as the grand prize!
In connection with the celebration, the workshop “Heart of the City: Different Urban Centers” will also be open. Architect Alvar Aalto enthusiastically designed various urban centers, including one in Jyväskylä. How would you build a city that takes advantage of terrain features – ridges and lakeshores? And where would you place different city buildings? Welcome to participate in an independent urban planning workshop and reflect on what makes a good and functional city for all its residents.
