Kanavuori nature trail
Rising to a height of almost 200 meters, the steep-walled bare rock Kanavuori is an impressive sight. From the top of the hill there are magnificent views over Lake Päijänne and Lake Leppävesi, as well as over the culturally and historically valuable Naissaari area.
Description
The nature trail leading to the top of Kanavuori is in some places very difficult and steep. In the beginning of the trail, there are stairs and rope railings to make the climb easier. The ascending section of the trail is steep and challenging in places, but once on top of the hill, the terrain is relatively easy to walk.
For safety reasons, the trail is only accessible when there is no snow and ice, because in winter the trail can be dangerously slippery. It takes about two hours to walk the route. No open fires are allowed in the area.
Kanavuori is located in Vaajakoski, about a 10-minute drive from the centre of Jyväskylä. You can arrive to Kanavuori either with car, bike or the local bus Linkki. The closest bus stops are a little over 1 km from the start of the trail. Check the bus schedules here: https://jyvaskyla.digitransit.fi/. There is a small parking area at Etu-Kanavuorentie 1 and bigger area in the Naissaari parking lot, approximately 700 metres from the starting point of the nature trail.
