The Jyväskylä Symphony Orchestra (Jyväskylä Sinfonia), the City Theatre and the museums offers cultural activities and fun over the weekend.
The Jyväskylä Art Museum is the best place to enjoy art stories from the homes of the Jyväskylä Region in the Art of Homes exhibition and the Timeless Beauty exhibition, featuring works by famous Finnish artists Helene Schjerfbeck and Albert Edelfelt, among others. Visit artist meetings and or take part to guided tours.
Exhibitions at the Craft Museum of Finland you will see craftwork, different craft techniques, artists and national costumes in a new way. Get familiar with materials and techniques in the multi-sensory Aistinvarainen exhibition where you can touch the items. Be inspired by what you see and get hands-on right away in the museum’s open workshop, where the whole family can work together.
Don’t forget the historic atmosphere of the Craftsmen House’s in the old courtyard of Toivola old yard or the architecture of Alvar Aalto; the Aalto2 Museum Centre is an eye catcher in itself. The museum shops are a great place to find gifts and souvenirs.

The Jyväskylä Symphony Orchestra, Jyväskylä Sinfonia, plays Erja Lyytinen’s blues rhythms. Aija Puurtinen and the Kipinät choir will give a guaranteed different and unique Easter concert with music by Karl Jenkins. On May Day eve, we will throw ourselves into the tango whirlwind when the combo that wowed at London’s Proms festival in 2018 arrives in Jyväskylä. The whole family will head to the Pentti and Arja children’s concert and to the film concert.

The Jyväskylä City Theatre presents at the moment Agatha Christie’s classic Hiirenloukku (Mousetrap) and Mestari (The Master) about legendary Finnish boxer Tarmo Uusivirta. Famous Finnish musician Maija Vilkkumaa’s debyt musical Bosslady is seen on the stage. Also two different perspectives to relationships are seen in Pikkurikoksia Rakkaudessa (Petty Crimes in Love) and Voitto kotiin (Victory home) plays. All plays are presented in Finnish.
There is a wide range of cultural content for children and older people too with a rich programme of activities. The children’s cultural spring Lasten Lysti is packed with activities for the whole family. For older people, there are concerts and theatre performances in the Taideapteekki (Art Pharmacy) event series. And don’t forget the libraries’ wide range of events – there’s something going on almost every day!
