Welcome to an adventure along Tourujoki river! Discover its unique natural environment, the historic district of Tourula, and the art inspired by the river over the years.
The exhibition is a joyful and interactive experience where visitors are encouraged to try things out, touch, move around, and marvel. It tells the story of Jyväskylä’s own Tourujoki River — water flowing through the heart of the city, among birds and forests.
The exhibition has been created in collaboration with the Department of Teacher Education of University of Jyväskylä, whose students have designed and produced the exhibition’s themes and content. Most of the artworks on display come from the collections of the Jyväskylä Art Museum and the Museum of Central Finland, while the photographs are from museum archives. In addition, the material includes memories of Tourula collected in the Central Finland Museum’s oral history project “Childhood and Youth in Tourula” (2012).
This year, Jyväskylä Green Loop celebrates its 10th anniversary, with water as the anniversary theme. At the same time, the City of Jyväskylä is restoring the Tourujoki River to a more natural state. This extensive and nationally significant project is scheduled for completion in autumn 2026.
