Pekka Hassinen, whose freshly baked novel Stream and Wave (Warelia 2026) is celebrated in the heart of Seminaarinmäki, will be the guest of honor at the Writers’ House October salon. The work is a historical bio-fiction that takes place in the spring of 1959 in Jyväskylä. The city is preparing and anticipating the solemn inauguration of the new university campus designed by Alvar Aalto, where the Prime Minister and the President of the Republic will arrive. This is the same Seminaarinmäki campus that was selected in July 2026 for the UNESCO World Heritage List as part of the larger Aalto Works entity.
The titles of the novel, “Stream and Wave”, are united by a deep artistry and a passionate approach to quality and form (“passion for qualities”). At the salon, Kristian Blomberg of the Central Finland Writers’ Association will discuss the novel with Hassinen, who is also passionately committed to quality and form. Since the protagonist Arvi Virta is himself the leader of the Arvi Virta Jazz Quintet, the reading sessions will be deepened by the long-standing jazz musician and saxophonist Markku Rinta-Pollari. In addition to the program, there will also be refreshments and celebratory catering. At the event, it will be possible to acquire the work at a discounted salon price with the author’s signature.

About the author:
Pekka Hassinen is a Doctor of Philosophy, writer and photographer living in Jyväskylä. His debut work Escape Shore, which reflects on architecture and the big questions of life, is strongly connected to the landscapes and historical layers of Central Finland. The book was published by Warelia in 2024. The novel Stream and Wave, to be published in the fall, is Hassinen’s second novel.
