Tapahtumapaikka

Museotie 2, 19650 Joutsa, Suomi

The Joutsa Local Museum is located on the Koiravuori estate, which is about two kilometers north of the village center. The area is an old yard area. Koiravuori was still inhabited in the late 19th century. None of the museum area’s buildings are in their original location, but have been moved. The construction of the museum area began in 1964.

The museum is located on a gentle hill and the yard is about 1½ hectares in size. The windmill is located outside the actual yard area.

The main building of the Joutsa Museum is the former Mesiäinen house from the Marjotaipale village. The house is a typical Finnish peasant building. There is no precise information about the age of the house and its builder. However, the oldest part, the living room, is over 200 years old.

The Joutsa Museum aims to be an active museum. Various events are organized annually in the museum area. Among other things, some of the events of the Joutsa Parish Celebrations, Joutopäivät, have been held in the museum area.

All in all, the local museum gives a good picture of the traditional way of life in Joutsa.

The museum is managed by the Joutsa Local Heritage Association.
