The Muurame Church was completed in 1929 based on the drawings of architect Alvar Aalto. Several influences from Aalto’s honeymoon trip to Northern Italy can be seen in the church’s details, such as the campanile-style bell tower, the high-placed small windows, the sun canopy of the wing building, the color palette of the church, and the surrounding wall. Architecturally, the church represents Nordic classicism.
Note: No guide on site until June 4th, but you can explore the church on your own. The church is closed on Midsummer’s Eve, Friday June 19th.
