Laajavuori Nature Trail

Laajavuorentie 15, Jyväskylä
Jyväskylä

Laajavuori Nature Trail is located in the Laajavuori ski and outdoors resort and runs through a varied forest terrain. Approx. 4 km long, the trail runs mainly through spruce forests, with rocks and small bogs adding interesting variation.

Description

The trail is located in the Laajavuori outdoor recreation area and, including the competition center area, runs counterclockwise for about four kilometers through the forests on the lower and middle slopes of the mountain. The trail was renovated in 2016, during which the trail was redirected to the west side of the ski trails along a more pleasant and safer route. It takes just under two hours to complete the nature trail at a brisk walk and familiarizing yourself with the control boards. It is worth setting aside some time for a snack break at the lean-to, where there is guidance along the nature trail. There is a campfire site at the lean-to, where you should bring your own firewood. During a forest fire warning, making fires is prohibited at all campfire sites. The principles of litter-free hiking are followed on the nature trails in Jyväskylä. Bring your trash with you from the hike to be sorted at home.

The nature of Laajavuori offers hikers the opportunity to explore, among other things, the hazy atmosphere of old spruce forests, the fragrant swamp of bog moss, and various forest management practices. In addition to habitat types, the nature trail checkpoints tell about the plants, birds, and mushrooms living in the area.

The terrain is hilly and the trail base is rocky in places, so the tour may be too demanding for children under school age and the elderly. If you wish, you can take the easier recreational trail marked on the map, which starts from the ski resort parking lot and initially runs along Hyppyritie.

The trail start board is located on the north side of the ski resort, along the road leading to the Vuorilampi sauna, about a hundred meters from the pond. There are signs to the trail start point from the northern edge of the ski resort parking area. The marked section of the trail ends on the south side of the ski resort, at Killeri track, where you can turn left to return to the ski resort parking area. There are 17 check boards along the trail. The nature trail is not maintained in the winter. During the ski season, it is a ski trail between the last check point and the ski resort, and you cannot walk on it.
