Muuratharju offers an great network of trails that can be enjoyed throughout the year. Located just a short distance from the center of Muurame, it is one of the area’s most popular destinations for outdoor activities. The trails wind through diverse ridge landscapes, forests, and scenic viewpoints overlooking both Lake Muuratjärvi and Lake Päijänne.
Part of the Natura 2000 network, Muuratharju is known for its unique natural environment and beautiful landscapes. During the summer, visitors can explore numerous small forest paths and trails that lead through the ridge area, providing easy access to stunning lake views and peaceful forest scenery. Please note that some of the smaller trails are unmarked, but they are easy to follow and reward hikers with some of the area’s finest views.
In winter, most of the routes are maintained as a well-connected network of cross-country ski trails:

101 km trail, no lights
Facilities
Along the trails, there is a wooden shelter and campfire site on the shore of Lake Muuratjärvi, located near the cemetery. Please note that there is no toilet in the area.
Parking Areas and Access Points
Muuratharju can be accessed from several parking areas:
Sports Field Parking Lot: (Kenttätie 13, 40950 Muurame) A convenient starting point for the cross-country ski trails in winter and in the summer time there is the 9-hole disc golf course.
Hopeasannantie Parking Lot. (Hopeasannantie, 40950 Muurame): The closest access point to the stunning viewpoints overlooking Lake Päijänne.
Cemetery Parking Lot: The shortest walking distance to the wooden shelter and campfire site.

Pets are welcome to explore Muuratharju with you. Please keep them leashed at all times.

Muuratharju is situated approximately 1.8 km from the centre of Muurame. You can get here with the local Linkki: Bus number 113. Check the schedules here.

Winter maintenance
The municipality of Muurame maintains the ski trail network during the winter season. To ensure the best possible skiing conditions for everyone, please note that the trails are reserved exclusively for cross-country skiing and should not be used for other activities.
Structures
Overlooking the shores of Lake Muuratjärvi, you'll find a covered picnic shelter with a table, making it an ideal spot to enjoy a packed lunch and take in the peaceful surroundings. Please note that there are no toilet facilities available in the area.
Lapp hut or camp fire
Take a break by the campfire site on the shore of Lake Muuratjärvi, available for all visitors to enjoy. Please note you need to bring your own firewood.
