Jyväskylä is the capital of the world-famous architect Alvar Aalto. Welcome to the guided bus tour! We will get to know Aalto’s production of almost 60 years. We will hear stories about Aalto’s life stages and personality without forgetting his talented architect wives Aino and Elissa. We will visit the restored Muurame Church, in its original 1920s costume and the world-famous Säynätsalo Town Hall . On the way back, we will drive by the Aalto2 museum center, where those who wish to visit the newly renovated Alvar Aalto -museum, can hop off the bus and visit the museum at their own expense (not on Mondays).

Accessibility: The office and exhibition floor of Säynätsalo Town Hall can be accessed by a stair lift, but the need for a lift must be indicated when booking the tour. The council hall can only be reached by stairs. The municipal hall has an Autism-friendly certificate.

Architecture of Jyväskylä

Get to know Jyväskylä through architecture! On this tour, the life work of Alvar Aalto and his contemporaries is complemented with modern architecture and brings out internationally interesting urban construction. The architecture of civilisation, education, wood industry, administration and housing has been designed by architects Wivi Lönn, Elsi Borg, Alvar Aalto, Arto Sipinen, Kirsti Sivén, Asko Takala and Anssi Lassila, among others. Destinations can be viewed from the window of the bus. Possible destination visits are agreed upon separately.
