As the evening darkens, the City of Light, Jyväskylä, glows magnificently. Harju Tower, Kuokkala Bridge, Matti Nykänen’s ski jump, and other illuminated landmarks warmly welcome visitors to the city. The Jyväskylä Region is like Finland’s nature in miniature. In the region’s four national parks, you can hike through ridge, lake, and marsh landscapes, among rugged cliffs, or surrounded by ancient pine forests. Explore the Capital of Alvar Aalto

The 30 Aalto sites include the Säynätsalo Town Hall, which The New York Times has chosen as one of the most significant works of post-war architecture. The new gem of Aalto’s capital is the Aalto2 Museum Centre, which combines the Alvar Aalto Museum and the Museum of Central Finland under one roof. Sweat it out, for example, in a public sauna sheltered by century-old brick walls, in atmospheric smoke saunas, or even in an igloo sauna.
Jog, Cycle, Paddle…
In the Sports Capital of Jyväskylä, it’s easy to enjoy an active holiday. Jog around the Rantaraitti, a lakeside trail around Lake Jyväsjärvi, a favorite among locals. You’ll break a sweat, especially at the many outdoor gyms along the trail. You can also get a solid workout on the Harju stairs near the city center. In addition to jogging routes, the Jyväskylä Region offers excellent opportunities for other activities: go cycling through the region’s varied terrain or enjoy paddling in nature adorned with autumn colors.
Admire the Views in UNESCO Landscapes
A kilometer-long uphill trail, a climb to the triangulation tower, and before you lies a breathtaking view of Lake Päijänne. The Struve Geodetic Arc point at Oravivuori in Korpilahti, Jyväskylä, is one of the Jyväskylä Region’s UNESCO World Heritage sites and a great place to marvel at the region’s stunning lake views. There are other scenic spots to admire the views as well, such as the views from the top of Kanavuori or Harju Tower in the Jyväskylä Region.
