Where to go by boat – grab some boating tips for the summer!

Jyväskylä Region offers wonderful diverse boating destinations. By boat, you can reach stunning nature-close destinations or enjoy unique services. This text compiles magnificent diverse boating destinations from different parts of Jyväskylä Region. All destinations on this page can be reached from one another by waterway, though some transitions require using different canals.

Experience the magnificent and diverse Lake Päijänne

Noukanniemi, located in Haapaniemi on Lake Päijänne, has received a renewed magnificent Vehryt Nouka to crown the place. You can come here to service your boat or eat at the restaurant, which is open by reservation and for various events.

Savutuvan Apaja is a lovely destination that can also be reached by boat. Savutuvan Apaja is also located in Haapaniemi on the shore of Lake Päijänne. Groups can order food and sauna services from Apaja with advance booking.

On northern Lake Päijänne, boaters should stop at Juurikkasaari in Säynätsalo, which features a summer terrace that was awarded in 2023 and 2024. At Juurikkasaari you can enjoy grilled delicacies, go to the sauna, and also visit the nearby Aalto sites – Säynätsalo Town Hall and Muuratsalo Experimental House, just a stone’s throw away.

On Lake Päijänne, one of the most popular boating destinations is Kalasaari. The island has a grill shelter where you can cook delicious provisions while waiting for the sauna to heat up. From the sauna, you can also take a dip in the lake via the pier. Kalasaari is easy to reach thanks to its good boat dock. You can bring, for example, pancake batter and a griddle (Muurikka pan) with you and come spend a relaxing summer day here.

By boat to unique recreational areas

Mämminiemi, located on Lake Päijänne and popular with many, is also definitely one of the best places to spend a summer day. Its beautiful cliffs beckon from afar to lie down on a blanket with a book and snacks. You can read more about Mämminiemi here!

Korpilahti harbor is a beautiful harbor where you can go to eat, drink, or service your boat. Especially the pizzas at Korpilahti harbor’s café-restaurant Satamakapteeni are worth tasting, and sometimes you can enjoy them while listening to live music. You can also stay here at the dock overnight for a small fee.

If hunger suddenly strikes while boating near Lake Kuusvesi, it’s worth heading to Laukaa harbor. There you can choose from small snacks to proper meals. Laukaa harbor is also very active due to various activities and events, but also an excellent destination to just go sit and enjoy the day. You can also stay here in the harbor with your boat overnight for a small additional fee.

Towards clear-water Keitele

At Kuusa rapids you can find a rapids café, where you can go sit on the terrace and enjoy summer while eating ice cream. Kuusa rapids café is located in the immediate vicinity of Kuusa canal on the Vatianjärvi side.

In Keitele you can find the magnificent Rekolahti, which boasts a long swimming beach. Rekolahti has a good boat dock where you can easily moor your boat. On site you’ll find a fire-making place where you can prepare good provisions. From the swimming beach it’s easy to take a dip in the water or even go SUP boarding on the lake while the boat is moored at the dock.

By Lake Keitele you can also find the lakeside café Matilan Ankkuri. Here you’ll find food for both small and large appetites, for example pizzas and hamburgers.

In Keitele you can also find the magnificent recreational harbor Viukari, where it’s pleasant to go and enjoy a summer day. Viukari is easy to reach thanks to a good dock and you’ll also find a lean-to shelter, campfire site, and sauna there.

Keitele and Konnevesi boast magnificent scenery

From Keitele or Konnevesi side you can reach Neiturin Kievari established at an old canal guard station, which is a unique boating destination. Neiturin Kievari is decorated with respect for its history. Here you can also fill your stomach with something salty or sweet.

At Suolahti harbor located on Keitele, you can eat, drink or indulge in ice cream at restaurant Majakka. If you want some culture alongside boating, you can find Suolahti’s Old Station as well as Keitele Museum near the harbor.

One of Konnevesi’s magnificent destinations is Häyrylänranta, where you can find a restaurant as well as boat maintenance facilities. You can also stay overnight here. Häyrylänranta is near Etelä-Konnevesi National Park, which is why you can even reach the national park from here with your own boat.

The lakes of Jyväskylä Region are among the most magnificent, which is why it’s worth making the most of them. It’s worth heading to the lake with plenty of time and enjoying just the journey to the destination. The lakes of Jyväskylä Region are perfect for spending a peaceful summer day or for more active water sports, such as SUP boarding, jet skiing, or even water skiing. Päijänne and Keitele together with smaller lakes form a unified waterway system, along which you can enjoy different destinations according to your own schedule.
