1. Summer of events in the Jyväskylä Region

Jyväskylä Region is buzzing with events all summer long – from smaller events to major international events. For example, a knitting festival at the end of June and in early July, the longest continuously organized festival in the Nordic countries, Jyväskylä Festival, will offer a varied programme of events. At the beginning of August, you can enjoy world’s best rally as theSecto Rally Finland, takes place in Jyväskylä and on the fast gravel roads of the Jyväskylä Region from 30th of July to 2nd of August 2026. Famous festivals will also entertain during the summer, both at Jyväskylä’s Lutakonaukio and at Himos.

2. The hottest of the hot saunasummer

In the Jyväskylä Region, the combination of lakes and the gentle warmth of sauna creates an unbeatable sense of well-being. In the Sauna Region of the World, you’ll find both traditional and unique saunas, where you can experience the quintessential Finnish sauna experience at its purest. How about enjoying the steam in an igloo sauna, relaxing on the benches of the world’s largest smoke sauna, or drifting across a scenic lake on a sauna raft? The hottest sauna summer kicks off with Sauna Region Week from June 6th to June 15th 2025, featuring dozens of sauna events across the Jyväskylä Region. How many will you experience? Throughout the summer, open sauna shifts invite you to throw water on the hot stones, while the Sauna Rally from July 29th to August 3rd 2025, keeps the heat of sauna summer going.

3. The charm of gravel roads on gravel cycling routes

The Lakeland by Cycle route network offers gravel and touring cycling enthusiasts over 1000 kilometers of pedaling in the beautiful landscapes of the Jyväskylä Region. Along the routes, you’ll discover magnificent natural sites such as the Karhunahas gorges, as well as the Jyväskylä Region’s national parks, or you might even stop by a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Connector routes enable combining, extending, and dividing the three main routes into shorter sections. The routes are mostly easy to navigate.

4. The capital of Alvar Aalto and two UNESCO sites

Explore the world-renowned architecture in Alvar Aalto’s capital, Jyväskylä. The city and its surroundings boast more significant architectural complexes by Aalto from various eras than anywhere else in the world. Discover, for example, the Säynätsalo Town Hall, considered one of Aalto’s most significant works. During the same trip, you’ll also have the opportunity to experience two UNESCO World Heritage Sites: the Petäjävesi Old Church and the Struve Geodetic Arc triangulation point on Oravivuori in Korpilahti.

5. Easily Into the Nature in Summer

The Jyväskylä Region offer many beautiful nature destinations, but what if you don’t have access to a car? There are plenty of nature spots in the area that can be reached by bus or train. Hop on a Linkki bus and head out to the trails. During summer weekends, national parks are also easily accessible by the Outdoor Express bus. You can either do a day trip or stay overnight.

6. Experiences amidst Europe’s Largest Continuous Lake Area

Summer, a dock, and the lapping of waves – a winning combination that Jyväskylä Region’s 3700 lakes offer excellent opportunities for. Enjoy the lake views from a cottage pier, at Finland’s most experiential harbor in Jyväskylä’s Lutakko, at other cozy harbors in the region, cruising on Lake Päijänne, or engaging in other water activities. For those craving more adventurous water escapades, options like river rafting are available.

Indulge in local flavors at charming summer cafes and restaurants in the Jyväskylä Region. You’ll find idyllic and cozy spots for a break both in the tranquility of the countryside and in the hustle and bustle of the city. You can also pick up local delicacies for a souvenir: perhaps candies, coffee, honey, or world-class cheddar. Explore the region’s brewing culture while raising a glass with a friend.
