Jyväskylä City Church

Kirkkopuisto (Church Park) is one of the oldest parks in Jyväskylä. Its construction began in the early 1800s. Kirkkopuisto was a market area during the founding of the city in 1837. The marketplace was located in the current Kirkkopuisto from the 1830s until the 1930s. Jyväskylä City Church was built in the middle of the then market square in 1880, becoming the first stone church in the Jyväskylä Region. The church was designed by architect L.I. Lindqvist.

Jyväskylä’s Kirkkopuisto is part of a nationally significant milieu and urban environment. The culturally and historically valuable park underwent massive renovations in the early 2000s. Today, Kirkkopuisto is a green oasis for city residents – a beautiful and popular meeting place in the heart of the city. In the summer, people gather on the lawns of Kirkkopuisto for picnics, and during Christmas time, they admire the Christmas lights.

The City Church is open from Wednesday to Friday from 11 am to 2 pm and during services. Guide services are available in the church. The City Church is also a popular wedding church, especially on summer Saturdays.

A cozy Christmas Light Land is built in Kirkkopuisto during the Christmas season.
