If you’re interested in adding something of magical beauty to your photo gallery, then it’s worth heading south to Korpilahti and taking in the Kärkinen bridge. Spanning fabulous Lake Päijänne and the Kärkistensalmi Strait, the Kärkinen bridge is Finland’s third longest. The bridge is almost 800 metres in length and rises to a height of close to 100 metres.
The bridge is situated on the road chosen as Finland’s most scenic route and beneath it passes the shipping channel between Jyväskylä and Lahti. An impressive view to Lake Päijänne in Kärkistensalmi opens from the 20 metre high bridge. You can park your car next to the bridge in the courtyard of the nearby café.
