The best playgrounds in Jyväskylä

Oikokatu 7 

Perhaps the most famous playground in Jyväskylä is the traditional Mäki-Matti family park, located about 1 km from the city center, near Harju. The large park offers activities for both small toddlers and slightly older kids. Sand areas, swings, slides, teepees, and a pirate ship keep the children active!

On weekdays, the park’s toy storage and houses are open. Inside, there are restrooms, playrooms with toys, and a kitchen for preparing food. You can also prepare your own snacks at the park’s grill area and have a summer picnic. The café is open on weekdays and offers soup lunches and treats. 

Various events and activities are also organized at Mäki-Matti Family Park.

In the Lutakko harbor, Pupuhuhta activity park, and Tammirinne playground, there are new interactive equipment that encourage movement in a fun way. The equipment, which combines exercise and soundscapes, also provides brain stimulation. They are suitable for all ages and entertain teenagers as well as children’s parents.

An accessible exercise and play area has been built in Lutakonpuisto, along the Rantaraitti. The complex consists of a play area and an outdoor gym. Accessibility is considered in the choice of equipment and materials, as well as the placement of equipment, and the use of colors in the area. You can also admire light art in the park!

Seppä Högman’s Park is located in the breathtaking lake scenery of Väinölänranta, about six kilometers from the center of Jyväskylä. The park’s main attraction is the net climbing course, which is one of the largest in Jyväskylä. Beware, the floor is lava! There are also activities for adults in the park: while children play, you can have a good workout with the park’s fitness equipment. In the nearby beach area, you can sit on benches to admire the lake scenery and the passing ships and boats. There are also hammocks on the beach for lounging.

There is something to do for both children and adults in Kangaslammenpuisto! The park offers a variety of play equipment for children, including different climbing frames, slides, and swings. Accessibility has also been considered in the park. At Kangaslampi, adults don’t have to settle for standing by the sandbox, as there are several fitness equipment options for them in the park. There is also a parkour park located next to the activity park. 

Emännäntie 18a 

Emännänpuisto is located in Kortepohja near Laajavuori. The park has space to play games, and its several slides invite you to enjoy gentle or slightly more thrilling rides. The park also features a parkour area, fitness equipment, and several seating groups for relaxing and eating snacks. Also, note the forest path starting from the edge of the park, which surprises with fun climbing courses, a liana, and treehouses along the way.

The oldest playground equipment in Jyväskylä, the Heppu carousel, is located in the Lounaispuisto playground at the intersection of Minna Canthin katu and Seminaarinkatu. In the small but charming playground, there are also swings and a climbing frame. In Lounaispuisto, a variety of events are organized during the summer. The park has an accessible toilet.
