Atmospheric end-of-year holiday in the Jyväskylä Region

On vacation in the Jyväskylä Region, you can enjoy museums and theater, relax on sauna benches, and stay in a city hotel or experientially close to nature. Read five tips for an atmospheric vacation!

1. Follow Aalto’s trail

Jyväskylä is called the capital of Alvar Aalto – as the city and its surrounding areas contain the world’s largest collection of significant architectural complexes designed by Aalto. Getting acquainted with Aalto’s life and work is worth starting from, for example, the magnificent Aalto2 museum center. At Aalto2 Shop you’ll find souvenirs and Christmas gifts that will delight design enthusiasts

2. Fall in Love with Christmas Light Land

The darkest time of the year is illuminated in Jyväskylä by the fairy-tale-like Christmas Light Land, which is built in Jyväskylä’s church park. The lights of Christmas Light Land – including light reindeer and giant Christmas light balls – are lit in connection with the Christmas opening on November 22nd and bring joy all the way until Epiphany.

3.Enjoy high-quality theater and concerts

The end of the year simply invites you to embrace culture. Jyväskylä City Theatre’s program features, for example, the passionate love story of two young artists Five Years of Love. Theatre Europe Four entertains audiences with, among other things, the Once Upon a Time Revue sketch extravaganza. Musical experiences are offered by Jyväskylä Sinfonia.

4. Relax in the warmth of the sauna

When you want to pamper yourself on vacation, enjoy the warmth of the Jyväskylä Region’s saunas. At Lutakko harbor in Jyväskylä, you can relax on the benches of sauna restaurant Satama Viilu’s saunas and in the hot tubs of the terrace area. At Revontuli Resort in Hankasalmi, Sauna Hopping event days warm the mind and body of the adventurous sauna-goer: there are five different saunas to test, from smoke sauna to igloo sauna.

5. Accommodation in a stylish city hotel or in the tranquility of nature

In the Jyväskylä Region you will find both quality hotels and unique, nature-close accommodation options. Within a five-minute walk from the Alvar Aalto Museum you can stay at the comfortable Hotel Alba. The renovated spa hotel Scandic Laajavuori charms with its elegance. You can spend an experiential night in Hankasalmi at Luontovire’s forest accommodations or at the airplane hotel Ilmatar Air Lodge in Uurainen’s beautiful rural landscape.
