Mämminiemi, located in Haukanmaa and bordering Lake Päijänne, is actually part of the Municipality of Toivakka. Mämminiemi can be reached conveniently by water from Jyväskylä, Muurame and other surrounding areas. Mämminiemi can also be accessed by road. On the shores of the lakes lying within the area of the municipality there are a number of interesting businesses providing wellness services and organised excursions such as Nukula, Wäärälä, Pistoretki, Taulu Manor and Ruuhipirtti.
The best and the recommended way to reach Mämminiemi is by boat along Lake Päijänne. By road the distance from the centre of Jyväskylä is roughly 34 kilometres and a car park can be found about 300 metres from Mämminiemi itself at the address Rappukalliontie 217, 41630 Oravasaari. The Mämminiemi area covers approximately 10 hectares. At the northern end of the recreational area there are two boat jetties, with buoyed moorings for 10 craft. On the south side there are six buoyed moorings and a main jetty.
The area possesses a traditional sauna cabin equipped with cooking facilities and a sauna. The cabin can be used during supervised times as well as the sauna, which functions on the public sauna turn principle. A family sauna turn lasting an hour can be booked before or after the public turns. In addition, at other times the sauna can be booked for private use. The area also features two covered shelters for barbecuing, places for building an open fire as well as toilet facilities. Tenting is also permitted in the area.
