Located in Salamajärvi National Park, the Vaatimen kierros trail offers an opportunity to explore the diverse wilderness. The nature trail is 18 kilometres long and partly rocky, so it is necessary to bring good footwear and reserve plenty of time. Vaatimen kierros is a great all-day excursion! Along the way there are two camping sites, a campfire site and a wilderness cabin at Ahvenlammi, where you can book an overnight stay in advance. The trail passes through beautiful lake scenery, craggy cliffs and several bogs. The path is mainly on even land but some places are very rocky.
The trail starts and ends at Koirasalmi nature reserve, which can be reached by car. Koirasalmi has a wide range of services including a summer café, accommodation, a recycling point, a swimming pier and a sauna for hire.

Arrival is at Koirasalmi Nature Information Hut where you will find several services and a parking area.

Starting point/end point
The trail begins and ends at Koirasalmi Nature Information Hut. The trail is marked with yellow paint markers on the ground.
Route length
An 18-kilometre circular route that takes around 5-7 hours to complete.
Structures
The path is mainly on even land but some places are very rocky. Set aside a good amount of time and wear sturdy shoes. Duckboards cross mires and rocky ptrails pass through heathland.
Lapp hut or camp fire
Along the way, there is a campfire hut at Pyydyskoski, a lean-to at Heikinjärvi and a campfire site at Hiiliniemi. Dry toilets at Pyydyskoski and Heikinjärvi (bring your own toilet paper). Possibility to overnight in a pre-rented wilderness cabin at Ahvenlammi.
