Arriving in Jyväskylä

The Jyväskylä Bus and Train Station (Matkakeskus) offers assistance services for passengers arriving and departing by both train and bus.

VR trains

Book the assistance service by phone no later than 36 hours before embarking on your journey by calling the accessible travel service number 0800 188 822 (toll-free number, open Mon-Fri 5-22, Sat-Sun 7-22). The assistance service is free of charge.

Matkahuolto buses

An assistant must be booked in advance from the Matkahuolto Customer Service Centre no later than 36 hours before the bus departure or arrival time. The booking must be made Mon-Fri 8-16, tel. +358 20 331 222 (call price 8.4 cnt/min) or by e-mail to [email protected].

Getting around Jyväskylä

Nearly all of the Linkki green local transport buses are suitable for wheelchair users. Both the wheelchair passenger and their assistant travel free of charge. A lowerable wheelchair ramp that enables electric wheelchair travel can be found in the new vehicles in traffic.

You can book a disability taxi from the local Jytaxi service by calling +358 100 6999 or directly through the Jytaxi application by choosing an accessible taxi as a requirement.

Traveling between municipalities in the Jyväskylä Region

Local transport service Linkki runs from the centre of Jyväskylä to Toivakka (line 38R), Laukaa (line 41) and Hankasalmi (Regional transport line 43).

From Toivakka to Jyväskylä you can take the Linkki lines 38 and 38K. The accessibility of the services should be checked beforehand.

There are direct train connections from Jyväskylä to Jämsä, Hankasalmi, Petäjävesi and Keuruu. Accessible seats are available on the trains. Check the train timetables and buy tickets on the VR website.

Jyväskylän Liikenne Oy operates regular bus services from Monday to Friday between Jyväskylä – Jämsä, Jyväskylä – Äänekoski – Suolahti and Jyväskylä – Uurainen – Saarijärvi. Check the timetables and buy tickets on the Matkahuolto website.

Onnibus also travels from Jyväskylä to Jämsä, Joutsa, Äänekoski and Hankasalmi. The Onnibus MEGA two-storey buses have a low-floor entrance and seats suitable for people with mobility impairments. From Jyväskylä to Multia, the cheapest way to travel is by first taking the train to Keuruu, and going from there by taxi to Multia.
