The Petäjävesi route can be traveled by car and also by bicycle in the summer. The total length of the route is just under 30 km. The route is best traveled in the summer, but most destinations can be explored year-round. In winter, however, we recommend checking the opening hours of destinations separately and preparing with suitable equipment for moving in nature.

Puupiippola
Puupiippola is a toy workshop operating since 1987, offering high-quality wood products on order. The Puupiippola workshop and store are open by appointment, and various wooden products can also be ordered from the workshop.

Pirunkivi
In Petäjävesi, you can explore the mysterious Pirunkivi (Devils’ Stone), which is located along Hirvimäentie, at the address Hirvimäentie 470 Petäjävesi. You can leave your car at the roadside parking, where a signpost guides you to the destination, and the distance to Pirunkivi is about half a kilometer. The round-trip route is easy terrain with no significant elevation differences. There are boardwalks over the wetter parts of the trail. Pirunkivi itself is a boulder with a tafoni, or weathering hollow, naturally formed by erosion.

Direct Sale Heinähattu
At the charming shop-cafe-flea market, fresh locally baked treats and various handicrafts are available. Stop by Heinähattu to enjoy a cup of coffee and a homemade cinnamon roll. The shop offers a range of domestic handicraft products.

Lunch: Kyläseppä
In the same yard as Heinähattu, there is Kyläseppä, where you can stop for coffee or enjoy a delicious lunch. During lunchtime, Kyläseppä’s buffet offers a fresh salad bar, three hot dishes, soup, and dessert.

Petäjävesi Old Church and Wanha Witonen canoeing route
The magnificent Petäjävesi Old Church, built by the peasants of Central Finland in 1763-65, is one of UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites and represents the masterful wooden architecture of its time. Church services and various concerts are held in the church during the summer. The church can be visited daily during the summer season, but in the winter season, it is opened only by prior reservation. The splendid church is worth seeing from the outside as well.
From Kirveslahti harbor near Petäjävesi Old Church, the popular Wanha Witosen 75 km long canoeing route starts. There are plenty of options for shorter sections as well, so a day trip is also possible. Lake and river sections, as well as rapids, provide a diverse view of the route. The canoeing route is suitable for paddlers and rowers of all ages and fitness levels. Along the route, there are equipped landing spots marked with yellow triangles.

Radio and Telephone Museum
The Petäjävesi Radio and Telephone Museum’s collections contain nearly 4,000 cataloged items. The collection features the history of electronic communication and sound reproduction from the 1880s onwards. There is also a dedicated section for Finnish and international military and professional radio production.

Stay overnight at Petäjävesi
The closest accommodation option to the old church of Petäjävesi is Lemettilä Farm, which offers cottage accommodation and B&B farm accommodation in a charming stone barn all year round. Coffee and dining services are also available upon request. In the summer, especially in July, visitors are delighted by the lovely granary café.
On the other side of the road is the over 400-year-old Kirri Organic Farm – Kumpunen Holiday Farmhouse. Kumpunen organically cultivates oats, barley, rye, and wheat, and offers accommodation all year round.
