Day trip to Uurainen

Abroad to Uurainen! In Finland, there are sayings in several places where people “go abroad.” Does the saying refer to the idea that Uurainen is considered far from the city by locals in the Jyväskylä Region? In reality, it’s only 36 km from the centre of Jyväskylä. Therefore, the saying is believed to suggest that being in Uurainen feels like you’re truly abroad – the sandy beaches of Hietasaari in Uurainen are called the Riviera of Jyväskylä Region, and for a good reason. The accommodation options are truly in a class of their own and stand out from the rest of Finland – for example, the unique Ilmatar Airplane Lodge.
