Day trip to the north of Jyväskylä Region – Abroad in Uurainen. The Uurainen route can be traveled by car and also by bike in the summer. The total length of the route is just under 50 km. The route is best traveled in the summer, but most of the destinations can be visited year-round. However, in winter, we recommend checking the opening hours of the destinations separately.

SF Caravan Hietasaari
Hietasaari caravan area, also known as the “Riviera” of Uurainen, offers a stunning sandy beach with a long shoreline. The area has a summer café and plenty of different children’s activities, making it a perfect holiday destination for families. You can start the day with a delicious breakfast or enjoy a summer lunch at Suvipuoti.

Marjoniementila
Next, from Hietasaari, head to the 19th century Marjoniementila farm, where it’s atmospheric rectory offers a cultural-historical setting. Here you can explore a variety of activities and greet the sheep and horses. In the summer, you can also enjoy the café’s delicacies. Marjoniementila also offers farm accommodation, so you can stay longer if you wish to enjoy the tranquility of the farm.

Aittovuori outdoor area
Less than three kilometers away from Marjoniementila is Aittovuori, which offers a variety of outdoor activities. In the Aittovuori area, you can enjoy skiing, disc golf, or mountain biking in stunning scenery. This is the perfect destination for active nature lovers!
Opening hours: The Aittovuori outdoor area is open year-round. No winter maintenance.

Seasonal Boutique Selma
In the village of Uurainen, there is another delightful coffee spot – Seasonal Boutique Selma. This charming shop offers the creations of numerous artisans as well as local food products. While shopping, you can enjoy the café’s delicious offerings, such as freshly baked waffles. Selma is the perfect place to relax and enjoy local delicacies and crafts.

Auction Palsanmäki
If you want to make more bargains and buy something unique to take home from Uurainen, continue your journey to Hirvaskangas in Uurainen! Auction Palsanmäki, also familiar from TV, is located in Hirvaskangas, halfway between Jyväskylä and Äänekoski. Go and make unique finds and enjoy the atmosphere of the auction!
Opening hours: The auction is held on Fridays at 6 PM, and the gates open at 4:30 PM. Check the latest information on opening hours here (in Finnish).

Restaurant Keskipiste
After an active day, you can head to Restaurant Keskipiste (in Finnish) in the centre of Uurainen for an evening. Previously known as Restaurant Hymyhuuli, this same restaurant once employed Matti Nykänen, Finnish ski jumper who won five Olympic medals. Ravintola Keskipiste is located literally at the centre of Jyväskylä Region, offering a unique experience in a historic setting.
