The Orthodox Parish of Jyväskylä covers almost the entire Central Finland region. In addition to its main church in Jyväskylä, the parish maintains seven sacred buildings located across the region. Most of these are small log-built chapels known as tsasounas, or Orthodox prayer houses.
The Chapel of St. Arseny of Konevets in Saarijärvi is dedicated to the memory of Arseny of Konevets (d. 1447), the founder of the Konevets Monastery. The original building was completed in 1989, but it was destroyed in an act of arson in 2025 and rebuilt in 2026 according to the original design. Architecturally, the chapel represents the Karelian tradition, featuring a longitudinal church plan and a western bell tower. The icons of the chapel were painted by Jyrki Pouta.
Located amid the pine forests of Mannila, the chapel hosts Orthodox services on average once a month and is also used for various parish ceremonies and sacraments. Groups are welcome to visit the chapel by prior arrangement.
