Kärkistensalmi Strait & Kärkinen Bridge

If you’re interested in adding something of magical beauty to your photo gallery, then it’s worth heading south to Korpilahti and taking in the Kärkinen bridge. Spanning fabulous Lake Päijänne and the Kärkistensalmi Strait, the Kärkinen bridge is Finland’s third longest. The bridge is almost 800 metres in length and rises to a height of close to 100 metres.

The high-rising water tower of Kuokkala is a handsome sight when seen from the shores of Lutakko and one of the over 100 permanently lit sites in Jyväskylä. Many find it has UFO-like features especially at nightfall.

Matti Nykänen’s hill

A ski jumping stadium comprised of five hills is located in Laajavuori, Jyväskylä. One of the hills is named after Jyväskylä-born ski jumping legend Matti Nykänen as “Nykänen’s hill” or “Nykänen’s ramp”. Introduced in 1965, the hill was given its current name after Nykänen succeeded in the 1988 Calgary Olympics by winning three Olympic gold medals. Matti Nykänen’s hill now enjoys a magnificent permanent lighting.

Harju ridge & Vesilinna observation tower

The Harju ridge is a pine forest ridge formation in the middle of the city of Jyväskylä and the Vesilinna with its observation tower on the top of the ridge is a recognisable landmark that can be seen everywhere the city.  Harju is also a year-round area for outdoor activities and recreation for the city dwellers, a soothing green oasis right next to the city centre. The Vesilinna Observation Tower houses the Natural History Museum and a café-restaurant. The observation tower is always open during the opening hours of the Vesilinna Cafe & Restaurant.
