A day trip to Hankasalmi consists of stunning natural attractions, a variety of café and restaurant options, interesting experiences, and unique accommodations! Let’s not forget the historical cultural sites or the opportunity to explore farm life. The route can be traveled by car and in summer also by bike, and its total length is just over 70 km. The route is best traveled in summer, but most sites can be visited year-round. In winter, we recommend checking the opening hours of each site separately.

Häähninmäki Outdoor Area
Venture into the embrace of nature to explore the Häähninmäki outdoor area. Häähninmäki is known for its over 20-meter-high lookout tower, which has a heated cabin on top! The outdoor area also offers over 40 km of various trails for nature activities or, for example, mountain biking. Häähninmäki came second in the 2022 Outdoor Destination of the Year voting.

Hankasalmi Museum Village
You can dive into culture by visiting the Hankasalmi Museum Village. The area, open during the summer, reflects the surroundings of Hankasalmi from the 1700s and 1800s. Various events further enliven the village.

Lunch: Melli-Elli Confectionery and Café
After wandering around, you might start to feel hungry, so next it’s time to head towards a place to eat. In the village center of Hankasalmi, you can find Melli-Elli Confectionery and Café (in Finnish) which is known for its wonderful cakes and other delicious pastries. You can also buy some goodies from local producers to take with you.

Ruokoniemi Camping
While walking around the village, you can visit the Ruokoniemi campsite and go swimming, play frisbee golf or play beach volleyball. In summer, enjoy the sunny weather on the terrace of the café.

For more activities, head to the comfort zone of the Revontuli Resort. At the resort you can enjoy golf, bowling and water activities. Revontuli offers a wide range of accommodation options! Revontuli’s restaurants certainly offer something delicious for everyone. Also, remember the nearby Häkärinteet during the winter season.

Etelän tila
Did you know that Etelän tila located in Hankasalmi has been producing honey for over 50 years? On the road to the farm, there is a small self-service cabinet where customers can pick up the golden delicacy for themselves and pay for the products in cash into a box.

Rantakorpi Farm
On the way home, you can still visit Rantakorpi Farm and get to know farm life. Here you can take a guided tour and pet the farm animals. There is also an opportunity to watch a herding demonstration! Please remember to contact the farm staff well in advance and inquire about the possibility of visiting.
