A day trip to Joutsa, located south of Jyväskylä Region, impresses with its cultural offerings that highlight the local lifestyle. Enjoy art, delicious local food, and the enchanting landscapes of the national park. The route can be traveled by car and also by bike during the summer, with a total length of just under 70 km. The route is best traveled in the summer, but most destinations can be visited year-round. However, in winter, we recommend confirming the opening hours of the destinations separately and preparing with suitable equipment for going out in nature.

Café Meijerinliiteri
The journey is worth continuing through forested landscapes towards Café Meijerinliiteri, where the charming courtyard features an art gallery Jäähuone, conjured into a former barn, and a summer dress flea market. If you only enjoyed a cup of coffee or tea at the previous stop, you can taste the café’s delightful savory and sweet treats in the garden under the shade of lilacs. It is worth continuing the tour with art and heading to the Kineettisen taiteen talo KITA. KITA has a changing exhibition and various events in the summer. The sculpture garden in the yard also serves as a great picnic and leisure spot.

Joutsan talomuseo
After lunch, you can head to explore the traditional Joutsa lifestyle at the Joutsa Homestead Museum. The main building of the museum is a typical Finnish peasant building, and there is a windmill in the yard. Various events are also organized in the museum area.

Leivonmäki National Park
A day trip is well concluded at the beautiful Leivonmäki National Park. The park’s marked trails offer nature experiences for hikers of all levels. Grab some picnic supplies from the store in the center of Joutsa and enjoy a snack or dinner with the lake views in the national park. Leivonmäki has several campfire sites, and at Harjujärvi’s accessible cooking shelter, you can make a fire even during a forest fire warning.
