A day trip to Konnevesi consists of stunning national park landscapes, the rapids’ froth, and local history. Konnevesi is known as an idyllic summer destination, located by the water. You can experience the beautiful scenery of the South Konnevesi National Park both on foot and along the waterways. Konnevesi has an active cottage community and its population multiplies during the summer season! The route can be traveled by car and also by bike in the summer, and its total length is just under 70 km. The route is best traveled in summer, but many sites can be visited year-round. In winter, we recommend checking the opening hours of each site separately.

Southern Konnevesi National Park
Start your day by hiking in the Southern Konnevesi National Park, known for its rugged lake landscapes. The Kalaja Trail (4.6 km) starts the day energetically in stunning scenery. Note! The trail has significant elevation changes and passes through challenging terrain. At the shore of Vuori-Kalaja, there is a shelter, a campfire site, a pier, a woodshed, and an outdoor toilet.
Opening hours: The national park can be visited year-round. Note! Some trails may be challenging in winter.

Konnevesi Local Museum
When arriving at the village of Konnevesi, it is recommended to first head to the Konnevesi Local Museum (in Finnish). The museum area features twelve log buildings from the 18th and 19th centuries, which can be explored free of charge year-round. While touring the local museum area, it is also worth noticing the Cow Path AR (in Finnish), which includes five augmented reality boards.

Lunch: Restaurant Kanto
After visiting the museum, you can next move on to enjoy a delicious homemade meal at Restaurant Kanto (in Finnish). The restaurant often uses ingredients from local producers, so with some luck, you might get to savor local specialties like Keitele’s vendace!

Konnevesi Church
Konnevesi is not only known for its national park but also for the only grey stone church in the Jyväskylä Region. The Konnevesi church (in Finnish), completed in 1922, was designed by Ilmari Launis.

Konneveden Kosket
Konnevesi is known for its many rapids and is a renowned fishing destination in Finland. Konneveden Kosket (in Finnish) offer high-quality services for avid anglers along their route of seven rapids. Even if you don’t have a fishing rod in hand, the bubbling Siikakoski (in Finnish) can easily be visited by car, as it is located right next to the road and a rest area. Ahoniemi-Kellankoski is a family business located in Konnevesi, offering accommodation, food, and fishing services in stunning rapid landscapes.
Opening hours: The Konneveden Koski can be admired all year round.

Dinner: Häyrylänranta & cruises
When your stomach is growling, it’s a good idea to head towards a place to eat. Restaurant Häyrylänranta (in Finnish) at the Konnevesi harbor offers not only delicious food but also stunning lake views. For a smaller appetite, you can enjoy cold ice cream and refreshing drinks while sitting on the large terrace. Various music events are also organized in the summer. When visiting the harbor, you can also take a dip in the clear waters, rent SUP boards, or play frisbee golf.
On summer Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays, it’s worth hopping on a boat from the Konnevesi harbor to admire the scenery of the Southern Konnevesi National Park along the waters, either on an E-K Lines (in Finnish) or MVH Services cruise. These 2-3 hour cruises allow you to see the beautiful nature of the national park while relaxing on the waves. More independent adventurers can rent equipment from Airopari at the harbor and explore the national park’s surroundings by paddling.

Overnight stay
On a full stomach, it’s nice to move towards the overnight destination. Suopirtti Bed & Breakfast offers accommodation in its atmospheric summer chambers during the summer. The more adventurous have the opportunity to spend the night in a tree-hanging Tentsile tent. Guests may also get to meet the furry residents of the farm, namely Highland cattle! For those looking for more traditional bed and breakfast accommodation, Hotel-Restaurant Mierontie is suitable, right in the center of Konnevesi.
